GOING GREEN
We’re constantly looking for ways to further reduce our environmental impact. From our products and packaging methods to people and buildings, sustainability is just as important to us as producing high-
quality products. We are constantly seeking new and more effective ways to conserve natural resources, reduce waste, minimize pollution and preserve the earth for generations to come. One of our CO|RE Values
is Doing the Right Thing, and we believe we have an obligation to run our business responsibly and sustainably.
So far because of Comfort Research’s sustainability efforts, 198,840 lbs. (99.42 tons) of waste have been saved from the landfill and 52,195.50 KWH of electricity created from unrecyclable materials at our Grand Rapids facility alone. These numbers are reflective of only the first 9 months of our Green Program, and continue to multiply. In the first year between our two Comfort Research facilities, 52,000 and 57,000 kwh of electricity were produced due to the waste to energy efforts in GR and TCC respectively. This means that the power pro- duced was enough to power over 10 average U.S. homes for a full year! Below are some additional things we are doing to further our Sustainability Initiative.
LANDFILL FREE
CR is landfill free and is working towards becoming Zero Waste certified. Anything unable to be recycled is burned and converted to electrical energy.
GREEN PRODUCTS
COMPOST
We are currently composting 100% of all our scrap food and decomposable items.
RECYCLING
We compact all
of our unusable cardboard, and recycle 100% of all single-stream items (as well as deposit bottle and can items).
RENEWABLE ENERGY
We are currently working towards operating on 100% renewable energy.
REDUCING AND REUSING
We’re finding unique ways to recycle things that are not traditionally recyclable - like cigarette butts and scrap fabric.
Earth-friendly products are important to us too. Below are a few green materials that we use to create our products. • Our famous Big Joe SmartMax fabric is made using recycled materials.
• Our special formula UltimaX Bean Filling is made from 80% polystyrene materials. • Our UltimaX Fiber Fill is made from 100% recycled soda bottles.
• Our Fuf Foam is made from 100% post-consumer materials.
As we develop new and exciting products, we continue to search for materials that fit in and support our recycling efforts.
